Our Staff Members

The staff at The Way of the Cross Family Worship Center has spent many years commited to Christian service. Our staff enjoys serving our community, whether in sharing our faith or just lending a helping hand. Here are a few of The Way of the Cross Family Worship Center's staff members, starting with :

Bishop Barney A. Blain, Sr.  (Founder)
As pastor, revivalist, missionary, church planter, and Bible teacher, Bishop Blain impacted the quiet community of his birth, Conway, SC for over forty years. This humble, dedicated and faithful man of God began his walk with the Lord at an early age. Bishop was converted in November of 1959 at the age of 18 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church during a revival service. Bishop Blain's long and effectual ministry began in 1961 when he was ordained a minister at the Church of God General Assembly in Pleasantville, NJ. As studying was a priority to him, Bishop earned his degree in 1969 from Charles Morris School of Advertising and Journalism. Further committed to the study of God's Word, Bishop also took courses in Bible and Theology at the Moody Bible Institute.

Those acquainted with Bishop knew that he had a pastor's heart. His first pastorate as a Church of God Minister began in 1967 in Atlantic City, NJ. Three years later, the Lord led him home back to the South where he took the pulpit of St. John Church of God in the Sandridge Community in Conway, SC. Soon afterwards he married his covenant wife, Nellie Hunter Blain on December 23, 1972. He remained pastor of this church until 1977. Under his leadership, the church grew both numerically and spiritually, and a new sanctuary was constructed. Also, during this time, he was consecrated and ordained as Bishop with the Church of God by the laying on of hands during the General Assembly in October of 1976.

In 1977 Bishop felt the Lord leading in a new direction. Heeding the call of God, Bishop Blain relinquished his pastorate, but continued to serve as overseer to the Church of God General Assembly. In 1979 he established the New Testament Church of Deliverance Ministry for those people who were overlooked by others, souls who others did not have time for. He founded The Way of the Cross Family Worship Center, along with his wife in 1980. The church in Conway thrived under his ministry, having two services on Sundays, a midweek prayer service, a Tuesday night Christian Education series, and Friday night Evangelistic and Deliverance Service. Bishop also made mission trips to Africa, and housed men of God from Africa as they made their way to the United States. For over 25 years future pastors, evangelists, missionaries and many other Christian leaders were taught and nurtured. Never compromising the Word of God, and encouraging his members to do the same, Bishop Barney A. Blain, Sr. left a RHEMA WORD before his passing, which was "STAY IN THE WORD."

Bishop is truly missed by all, but his teachings were committed to faithful men and women who have taken his charge to "GRAB THE TORCH AND CARRY THE FLAME!"

Co-Founder & Pastor Nellie Blain  (Co-Founder and Church Administrator)  Send E-mail to Co-Founder & Pastor Nellie Blain
Lady Nellie Blain, the devoted wife of Bishop Barney A. Blain Sr., and loving mother of their two sons, Barney Jr., and Reginald, is truly a Proverbs 31 woman. God designed her specifically to help meet the vision of her husband in ministering to the local church, the community and the world at large. She is a woman of great integrity and she stands on every Word of God.

She was saved at an early age, as her father was a minister of the gospel as well. In our church and in the community, she is highly spoken of. She delivers powerful words of encouragement to the congregation, and serves in the GAP Ministry. She continues to serve as a missionary to those who are unable to get to worship services. First Lady Blain, carries the mantle that God placed on her life, with reverance, dignity, grace and humility.

She reaches out and touches the lives of many and builds up the congregants when they are in need of care. She is always available, and whatever she finds her hand to do in the service of the Lord, she does it in obedience and excellence. She is a model woman of God, and many have been blessed by her.

Her desire is to be all that God has called her to be in Him. One of her favorite Bible Scriptures is: " The statutes of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever: the judgements of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey in the honeycomb. Psalms 19:8-10.

In her spare time, First Lady Blain enjoys spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, traveling to visit other churches, fellowshipping with friends over a good meal, and spending time in reading the Bible and other Christian books. She is also known as a great chef in the kitchen, much like her husband, and that is because, just as in every other area of her life, she does it with love!

""There are a lot of things that I may not know, but these things I stand firmly on: I Love the Lord, I Trust Him, and I Know That His Word is Infallible. These things gave me the strength to carry on, even until this day, after my husband Bishop Barney Blain went home to be with the Lord." I rest in Deuteronomy 33:12, "The Beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by Him; He covers them all day long, and they shall dwell between His shoulders." Just as a baby rests in its mother's chest and all frets go away, so the children of God can crawl up and reside heart to heart with their Master. Thank you Lord for welcoming us every time, and I praise you for allowing us to get that close!""

"When asked by Evangelist Solomon, "Overseer Blaine, why do people do the things they do that are not pleasing unto the Lord?" He replied, "Because they enjoy doing them. If they did not, then they would not do those things that displease Our Savior.""

Elder Cedric Spain  (Minister)
Minister C. Spain also stepped in to help the church in the loss of our founding Bishop. He is truly an anointed man of God who has the same passion for the Word of God, and drive to help the less fortunate as did his uncle, our Bishop.

We are honored to have him as a part of our church family and are always blessed when he comes to share a sermon, or minister to us in music. He currently ministers alongside his mother Pastor Laura Spain at the St. John Church of God in Conway, SC, and is the founder of Peace Ministries.

He is an active member of the Democratic Local and National Parties and serves on several boards. We look forward to his return!

"I'm honored, humbled, and all the more seek God for His perfect will for my life. Thank you for space on your website and it is outstanding. I'm honored to have had the time to grace the church in several Ministries and capacities over the years. I honor God for allowing me to work close by Bishop Barney and Missionary Nellie Blain and all those they brought me in contact with. This is not it for me there are higher heights and deeper depths in Christ Jesus and I am, and shall be perfect in Jesus, entirely and wanting nothing. May God continue to bless, favor, strengthen and keep you in His perfect will."

Evangelist Shaun Crawford  (Ministerial Staff/Youth Ministry)
Evangelist Crawford gave her life to the Lord in the year of 2000. She accepted the call of evangelism that was on her life in the year 2003, and she has been serving the Lord ever since.

She has a strong desire to see young people on fire for the Lord. She is compelled to help young men and women who feel that there is no hope for them. Our ministry is blessed to have a young woman of God here with us who has been called to the Kingdom for such a time as this!
